BodyX is a pair of eTextile wearables, imagined, designed, engineered and hand made by WILLPOWER as a pair of gloves to make the human body the instrument for music, visuals and lights simultaneously, in the context of his live immersive performances.

WILLPOWER is creating the 2nd version to make the connections stronger while adding a few more functionalities (both gloves mirror each other now with 3 touch sensors and 3 bend sensors each, new microcontroller ESP32-S3 Feather by Adafruit, Flex Sensors, and 6-DoF MPU-6050 by Adafruit).




BodyX is also the name of WILLPOWER's immersive 360° light and sound performance and installation in which the human body becomes the primary interface of activation.

Developed independently through an eight-year self-directed research process centered on technological self-authorship, BodyX transforms gesture into generative sound, spatial light choreography, projection, and scent in real time. The project operates at the intersection of immersive media art and performative practice.

At its core is a wearable instrument designed and built by the artist. Custom motion-sensitive gloves translate arm and body movement into percussive activation, generative synthesizer frequencies, distributed LED modulation, moving head light choreography, real-time projection control, spatial haze diffusion, and a subtle essential oil layer that introduces an organic sensory dimension. BodyX rejects the visible mediation of laptops on tables of stages and traditional controllers. The body itself becomes the instrument, the interface, and visual focus.

The audience can be seated in a circular configuration surrounding the performer. The work unfolds as a fully immersive environment in which micro-gesture produces macro-environmental transformation. HipHop vocal expression and spoken word interventions punctuate the performance, addressing themes of privacy, technological centralization, and individual agency. Choreographed audiovisual sequences are interwoven with improvisational passages shaped by real-time audience energy, including a brief participatory moment.

Following each live presentation (2–3 evenings planned), the activated environment remains open for an additional 2–3 hours as an immersive installation. Audiences are invited to inhabit the responsive space after the performative moment, extending the temporal frame beyond conventional stage structures.

BodyX engages questions of technological ownership, centralized infrastructures, embodied authorship, and the relationship between individual gesture and collective impact. The premiere is planned for Fall 2027 in Lisbon, Portugal (venue to be confirmed, with preference for an adaptable warehouse or industrial setting suited to circular staging).
